L’intérieur est en laquenashiji miel.
Les prises en métal argenté gravé sont ornées d’un motif étoilé à trois branches.
Le caractère uguisu décrit un petit oiseau de la famille des passereaux « la paruline » (sorte derossignol) symbolisant l’harmonie avec la nature, la paix et la tranquilité.Le bambou (take) fait partie des trois végétaux persistants dits « les trois amis de l’hiver » par leschinois (au côté du prunus et du pin) en tant qu’emblème de longévité. Mais surtout il représentela droiture et la modestie, l’intégrité alliée à la souplesse dont doit prendre exemple l’homme noble(le bambou plie sous la neige mais ne rompt pas).
C’est donc une image d’harmonie idéale mélangeant la force d’esprit et l’humilité intérieure…

Japan – Edo period (1601–1868), circa the early 19th century. Fumibako (letter box) in gold kinji lacquer with a nashiji background, decorated with gold and silver hiramaki-e motifs of bamboo stems and leaves, accompanied by the character ‘uguisu’.
The interior is finished in honey-coloured nashiji lacquer.
The engraved silver-plated handles are adorned with a three-pointed star motif.
The character ‘uguisu’ depicts a small bird of the passerine family, the ‘warbler’ (a type of nightingale), symbolising harmony with nature, peace and tranquillity. Bamboo (take) is one of the three evergreen plants known as ‘the three friends of winter’ by the Chinese (alongside the plum and the pine), serving as an emblem of longevity. Above all, however, it represents uprightness and modesty, integrity combined with flexibility—qualities from which the noble man should take his cue (bamboo bends under the snow but does not break).
It is therefore an image of ideal harmony, blending strength of spirit with inner humility…
