FRIEDLAENDER (Johnny), peintre et graveur né le 21 juin 1912 à Pszczyna (Pologne) et mort à Paris le 18 juin 1992.
Il fit ses études artistiques à Beslau puis à Dresde. Il arrive à Paris en 1937 et présente aussitôt ses œuvres dans des expositions collectives au sein de deux groupes «Équipe» et «Matière et forme» où il fut remarqué par André Lhote. Appartenant à la nouvelle École de Paris, son œuvre abstraite est accompagnée d’éléments allusifs à la réalité. Sa première exposition personnelle a lieu en 1948 à Paris, laquelle lui valut un article enthousiaste de la part du célèbre critique d’art Christian Zervos (1889-1970) . En 1949, Johnny Friedlaender créé son atelier de gravure à Paris dans lequel travaillèrent de nombreux jeunes graveurs venus du monde entier dont Zao Wou-ki et Nicolas de Staël. S’enchaînèrent ensuite avec succès les expositions internationales tant à Cincinnati, New-York, qu’à Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires ainsi qu’en Europe à Londres, Genève, Rome et Venise. Une magnifique exposition rétrospective de l’œuvre gravée de Johnny Friedlaender eut lieu en septembre 2008 à l’institut national d’histoire de l’Art à Paris.
Cette eau forte en couleur sur papier des années 1950/1960, signée en original en bas à droite, contrecollée sur une plaque de zinc, est le reflet du talent de ce grand artiste.
Cette épreuve d’artiste était sa propriété (marquée EA au crayon en bas à gauche). On peut remarquer que le papier présente par endroits des creux et des reliefs dont le but est d’apporter une dimension supplémentaire à la composition.

Bon état si ce n’est quelques légères usures du papier en marge, sans incidence aucune sur l’esthétique de l’oeuvre. Les zones blanches ou sombres n’appartenant pas à la composition ne sont que des reflets sur le plexiglas.

He studied art in Beslau and then in Dresden. Belonging to the new School of Paris, his abstract work is accompanied by elements alluding to reality. His first personal exhibition took place in 1948 in Paris, which earned him an enthusiastic article from the famous art critic Christian Zervos (1889-1970). In 1949, Johnny Friedlaender created his engraving workshop in Paris in which many young engravers from all over the world worked, including Zao Wou-ki and Nicolas de Staël. There then followed a series of successful international exhibitions in Cincinnati, New York, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires as well as in Europe in London, Geneva, Rome and Venice. A magnificent retrospective exhibition of the engraved work of Johnny Friedlaender took place in September 2008 at the National Institute of Art History in Paris.
This etching in color on paper from the 1950s/1960s, signed in original lower right, mounted on a zinc plate, reflects the talent of this great artist.
This artist's proof was his property (marked EA in pencil at the bottom left). We can notice that the paper presents in places hollows and reliefs whose purpose is to bring an additional dimension to the composition.

Good condition except for some slight wear to the paper in the margin, without any impact on the aesthetics of the work. The white or dark areas not belonging to the composition are only reflections on the plexiglass.
